How To Have a Healthy Brain

Fortunately, science has found new ways of enhancing brain health through the study of neurogenesis, the process of creating new neurons, or brain cells. Here’s some practical ways you can promote this process.

Get enough sleep- Get 8 hours of sleep each night so your brain can repair itself.

Go outside in the sun- When your body is exposed to natural sunlight, it produces Vitamin D, which promotes neurogenesis.

Eat a healthy diet- Eat Omega-3 Fatty Acid-rich foods found in avocados and fatty fish like tuna, salmon, herring, and sardines. Flaxseeds, chia seeds, and walnuts are also great sources. Blueberries and dark chocolate contain flavonoids which help us grow new neurons. Green tea does the same. Eliminate fast food and processed, fake food. Check labels for sugar. 4 grams of sugar equals one teaspoon!

Learn something new- Things like painting or playing the piano; a new sport-especially if it requires balance. As we age, we lose balance and flexibility. Meet new people and go places you’ve never been. Step out of your comfort zone.

Exercise. You should do something physical every day. Something that makes you sweat and increases your metabolic rate. Also, make sure you take the stairs whenever possible.

Eat Curcumin found in turmeric. Add a teaspoon of turmeric to a low-sugar smoothie. It helps with neurological disorders and brain damage.

Maintain a low body weight. If you are overweight, find help today.

Don’t take drugs or drink too much alcohol. Prescription or over-the-counter drugs should be taken in cases of life-threatening emergencies only. Alcohol is commonly abused and will take its toll on your overall health.

Fast once a in a while. Studies show, caloric restriction is good for you.

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise. Ephesians 5:15
